The Healthcare Academy (HCA) volunteers and ARDX Interns traveled to the Oakmont Community Development Corporation. The HCA was fabulous! There 20 students ages 6-14 (mostly 6-9) and they all had a great time…and learned something! Some of the fun included a session on nutrition with photos of “healthy” and “not healthy” meals…exercises where teams relay raced while imitating animals...a segment on active listening along with game of “telephone” to demonstrate the importance of really listening…an exercise on peer pressure along with some examples of “real-life” experiences…and a bullying/brainstorming session in which the group identified some useful ways to overcome bullying situations. The team debriefed in the parking lot afterwards and Megan said “I believe all of the interns really feel like they gave back to the community today. We had a great group of students, and the coordinators of the program were very interactive and helpful. I will go on record and say this was one of the best HCAs we’ve had to date!”
